Relieving Sinus Pressure

Sinus pressure causes one of the most painful swellings in human medical history. Blocked sinuses can cause migraines extended towards the back of the head and down the nape. They result to disturbed sleeping and shallow breathing when left unattended. To ease the pain, here are some helpful tips in relieving sinus pressure:

1. Saline Solutions

One way of relieving asthma pressure is to rinse your nasal passages with a saline solution. This will dislodge the mucus blocking your nasal passages. Boil 2 cups of water. After cooling down to a reasonably hot temperature, dissolve 1/4 teaspoon of salt into the water. Use either a bulb syringe or a Neilmed bottle to squirt the saline solution into each nostril.

Do this over the sink with your head tilted to one side as you squirt water into the higher nostril. The water will exit to the other nostril. Do not inhale while you are rinsing your nostrils of lodged mucus. It is alright if some mucus finds itself in your throat. Expel the mucus and gargle thoroughly.

2. Breathing In The Vapors

Many people recommend breathing in the cool vapors from a mix of eucalyptus oil and boiled water. Put a few drops of the oil into a bowl of really hot water. Put your head over the bowl and cover your head and the bowl with a towel. Breathe in the vapors rising from the bowl. In addition to eucalyptus oil, you can also use peppermint oil, lavender oil, or tea tree oil to help ease the pain.

3. Massage and Tapping Techniques

Aside from relieving sinus pressure with regular nasal rinses and steam inhalation, you should also massage the areas around your eyes and between your eyes. Tap your temples and forehead, and pinch the ridge of your nose near your forehead. Massage the ridge above each of your eyebrows. After 15 monutes, your sinuses will start to drain.

4. Radical Radish Sauce

This one is a radical advice, but it seems to work well. Swallowing 1/4 teaspoon of radish sauce or wasabi can clear up your sinuses. The same principle works if you rub Vicks or any mentholized medication, such as White Flower, under your nose. Do not insert Vicks or those herbal medications right up your nose. You might hurt your nasal passages.

5.Drink lots of water and lemon juice

Drinking lots of water will thin out your mucus. Drinking lemon juice, which is high in Vitamin C, will strengthen your immune system and cleanse your body of toxins. You may also drink tea to cleanse the lympathic system of toxins.

These five tips make use fo natural methods in relieving sinus pressure. However, you must consult a doctor and take in the necessary medications when your sinus pain has lasted for days. Use a humidifier in your room to avoid unnecessary build up of mucus in your nasal passages.
